Texas Instruments is initiating a massive expansion in Richardson with a new manufacturing plant with Governor Gregg Abbott’s backing and blessing.

The state of Texas blessed TI’s new 300mm analog semiconductor wafer fabrication facility with a Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) grant of $5,124,000 on the condition that it fulfills its investment and jobs creation promises.

According to the Governor’s office, TI’s is on the hook for generating 488 new jobs at the plant as well as $3.1 billion in capital investment to the area.

“The Lone Star State continues to be a leader in the development of innovative technologies because of companies like Texas Instruments,” said Governor Abbott.

“Made in Texas is a powerful label, and this expansion will create hundreds of jobs, generate billions in capital investment, and further solidify Texas’ reputation both at home and abroad. I thank Texas Instruments for their investment, and look forward to working with them to build an even brighter future here in Texas.”

TI cites proximity to the metro’s airports, a deep talent pool, and the fact that it already has a factory in Richardson as the reasons for its decision to put the new manufacturing plant in Richardson.

“This factory is an important step in our strategy to invest in more 300mm manufacturing capacity, which is a competitive advantage for our company and will enable us to continue to support our customers well into the future,” said Kyle Flessner, senior vice president of TI’s Technology & Manufacturing Group.
