1. A judge denied the request made by tenants of a Pleasant Grove apartment complex for emergency air conditioning, but agreed they had a “serious problem.” She then treated them all to a pool party, with burgers and hot dogs. She didn’t, but she clearly should have.

2. As the State Board of Education attempts to set curriculum standards for Texas social studies classes — you know, can’t you tell before I even finish the sentence that the process has gone predictably awry? At issue is the inclusion (or, at least, importance) of Cesar Chavez, Thurgood Marshall, and Anne Hutchinson. Oh, and if you follow the link you’ll find one of the most divisive comments sections I’ve seen since last year’s election. Yes, Hitler is name-dropped.

3. Andruw Jones, who most people kicked the Texas Rangers in the jeans for signing, hit three home runs in his first three at-bats last night, leading to an 8-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels and sole possession of first place in the American League West. So, okay, fine — I take it all back.
