But only in areas where 4-year-old learning is at capacity

Eric Nicholson beat me to the punch over there on that damned Fair Park site. Guess I’ll have to stop sitting on interviews for weeks at a time.

ANYWAY, Nicholson has a very good post on some of Alan Cohen’s plans to further emphasize early learning initiatives within DISD in the coming year. (Cohen is executive director of early childhood education at DISD.) The takeaway:

Next year, Cohen says, “we are going to pilot some 3-year-old classrooms in areas — and only areas — where there is excess capacity for 4-years-olds.” Mata will be accepting 3-year-olds. So will Frazier and Harllee. Eventually, Cohen envisions a city in which all 3- and 4-year-olds have access to high-quality pre-k.

We’ll talk more about this next week. In the meantime, read it all, please. Good stuff.
